Beatnik...CHICAGO’S BOHO-IEST BAR!
Outdoor courtyards and slushies may not be anyone’s idea of a perfect winter evening in Chicago. But the Windy City’s weather is irrelevant at Beatnik. The courtyard is heated, glass-ceiling covered, and cozy. Spiked with Rye and Amontillado Sherry, the seasonal slushie erase the shivers, despite the name, Freezin’ My Nuts Off. All cocktails are the production of ace drinkmaker, Benjamin Wood (previous NYC gigs: Distilled NY, Goldbar, Viktor & Spoils)
This opulent gypsy den, spread across three rooms, showcases bazaar-style accoutrements. The Bacchanalian-portioned chandeliers in that aforementioned warm courtyard are a part of Los Angeles history, salvaged from the Century Plaza Hotel. Glazed terra cotta meets Persian carpets, Egyptian doors, and intricate wood-carved furnishings, all of which are brightened up by leafy green plants. Exploring the cultures of the world was the hallmark of the Beatniks, which is seen in the style of furnishings as well as on the menu, with dishes borrowing flavors from Korea, Mexico and India.
