Chicago is easily one of the top places in the country to dine at any price point. This year brought a slew of diverse new restaurants to the city's already impressive collection. There were some sad closures – we'll miss Won Fun, Grace and Vera – but here are eight of the best new restaurants that opened in 2017.
Bonhomme Hospitality Group's newest restaurant is also its most exciting culinary project to date. Beatnik is full of Morrocan and Turkish flair, both on the menu and in the colorful tiles, chandeliers, pillows and rugs. It's easy – and affordable – to fill up just on mezze like smoked baba ghanoush, hickory smoked scallops, curry meatballs and roasted butternut squash with jalapeño cilantro yogurt and crunchy spiced pepitas. Hearty meat and seafood options comprise a feast meant to be shared, from Maine lobster with Thai coconut sauce and uni butter to roasted Lebanese-style lamb served with roti bread and pistachio tzatziki. This spot is a great pick for vegetarians too, with a dozen delectable veggie mezze options.
